This is one of a series of similar pieces that I've completed in 2020, during a pandemic, polarization, and politics. The work is a response to the confusion, chaos, and commotion of the year, an attempt to balance opposing and contrasting elements into a cohesive whole.
These pieces can be displayed in different orientations depending on mood. What orientation do you prefer? Why?
The Murrini slices in this piece are more irregular than in other pieces in this series. Circles contrast nicely with straight lines but flowing, irregular circles contrast even more.
There is also contrast in the textures in this piece. The Murrini is slightly shiny and the stripes are matte. Another level of subtle complexity.
